OML34: Egbo Resolves Dispute Between ND- Western, Eruemukohwarien Community

The Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun (Barr) Jaro Movudu Egbo Ksc, has resolved dispute between management of ND- Western and Eruemukohwarien Community in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

The resolution took place on Thursday 4th September, 2025, at a Security stakeholders meeting, conveyed by Egbo to address representatives of Eruemukohwarien community and management of ND-Western, operator of OML34.

Egbo maintained that the duty of the local government is to ensure there is peace and tranquility in every part of the local government.

He advised host communities against hastily shutting down government facilities, instead urging them to seek a medium to address issues without resorting to crisis at all times.

“As a government we vehemently frown at disruption and total shutdown of our National assets in our communities by any group of persons, similarly, We also do not support any marginalization of host communities and indigenous workers, which is why we have come to discuss how to collaborate and reach a mutually beneficial solution.”

After much argument and deliberations by the representatives of the Eruemukohwarien community and the indigenous staff of the company regarding their demands from the company, the OML 34 Management team responded that, the company has made plans to increase the workers remuneration by fifty percent (50%) which will takes effect from this month of September 2025 and to also improve on the welfare of staff of the company.

The Chairman pledged to undertake a follow-up on the resolution adopted and also encouraged the company to formally document their decision and forward it via a letter to the indigenous contractors, with a copy sent to his office.

Egbo noted that an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting would be convened, inviting all relevant parties, including indigenous contractors, Council Chairmen where the company operates, community president generals, and other key stakeholders.

The meeting was well attended by Principal Council officials, the Leadership of Eruemukohwarien community, indigenous staff of the company, security operatives, among others
