Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun Barr. Jaro Movudu Egbo Ksc, has inaugurated the Ughelli North Local Government Food and Nutrition Committee to oversee all activities and programs relating to food and nutrition matters in the local government area.
The committee is headed by the Vice Chairman of the Local Government, Chief (Mrs) Meg Atano.
In his opening address, Egbo noted that the Local Government Council received the instructions from the Delta State Ministry of Economic Planning, Asaba.
This follows the directives of the Federal Government of Nigeria to establish a Food and Nutrition Committee across all local governments of the federation.
The Council Boss enumerated the mandate of the committee to include providing necessary technical and professional assistance and support to the Secretariat on food and nutrition programme implementation.
The aim is to ensure adequate financial provision and timely release of allocated funds in state development plans, managing and maintaining database of nutrition activities, coordinating nutrition programme implementation at the LGA level, and supporting the office of the LGA Vice Chairman in maintenance of ongoing advocacy for food and nutrition issues among others.
Egbo informed the committee on the food items received from the state government, such as cartons of Spaghetti and 200 10kg bags of rice.
He said the committee will be responsible for the distribution of these items, as well as other food items that will be received in the future.
According to him, the items are meant strictly for only the vulnerable people in the local government, such as the elderly, orphanage homes, and other underprivileged individuals.
The chairman urged the committee to maintain integrity in the execution of their responsibilities.
He further emphasized the importance of dedication to serving humanity, guided by a sense of reverence for God.
In her brief remarks, Chief Mrs Meg Atano, the Chairman of the committee, thanked the Egbo for the privilege bestowed on her and other members of the committee to serve.
She pledged the committee’s unwavering commitment to discharge their duties diligently, assuring of earnest positive results soon.
She prayed that God Almighty will continue to bless, protect, and strengthen the Council Chairman to serve the people of Ughelli North Local Government Area effectively.
