A special environmental sanitation exercise was held on Wednesday 30th October 2024, at the Burutu Local Government Council Headquarters.
The exercise, aimed to keep Burutu clean, was jointly supervised by the Executive Chairman of Burutu Local Government Council, Hon. Chief (Dr) Julius Takeme (JP) , and Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Jamani Tommy Ejiro and Supervisory Councilor for Environment, Mr Oro Godwin.
Takeme charged residents of Burutu Local Government Council Area to keep their environment clean.
He said, “ Cleanliness is next to Godliness”, expressing his determination to ensure a clean environment was maintained and sustained in line with the MORE Agenda of His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
“ His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is committed to ensuring that residents of Delta State always maintain cleanliness”
“ This is a Special Environmental Sanitation Exercise aimed to clean-up all drainages and water canals to enable free flow of the water to the ocean”
He also noted that when the environment is clean the health of the residents is guaranteed.
On his part, the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Jamani Tommy Ejiro commended Takeme for embarking on the exercise, which is a welcome development.
The Commissioner urged the residents of Burutu Local Government Council to always keep their surroundings and environment clean.
Adding that Governor Oborevwori has tasked residents of Delta State to continue to promote a clean and healthy environment.
He called for Community participation in the monthly Environmental Sanitation exercises, explaining that the continued environmental sanitation exercises will reduce the risk of disease outbreaks.
Present at the Special Environmental Sanitation Exercise were Bar. Roland Ozidi Ombe, the Secretary Burutu Local Government Council, Supervisors, HPM Mr Awilly Fidelis, Mr. Grade-One Clark Technical Adviser to the council chairman on Media, Public Communication, Mrs Josephine Oyakemeagbegha, HOD Environment, Community Leaders and a host of others.
