Niger Government condemns bandits attack on communities

Displaced 600 persons in IDP camps

The Niger State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, has condemned bandits attacks in Lanta, Tunga, Dnakau and Juweedna communities in Erena and Shiroro Local Government Areas.

In a statement issued by the Director Media and Strategy of the Ministry, Habibu Abubakar Wushishi, said the communities were attacked Thursday, 20th June,2024, as many cattle and sheeps were rustled.

The statement explained that no case of kidnapping was reported, though many houses in Lanta village were burnt down by the attackers.

It further noted that about 600 persons displaced from the villages are presently in Erena and Kuta IDP camps.

In a similar development, the statement also disclosed that the Ministry received report of boat mishap on the River Niger (Kippo) in Mokwa Local Council of Niger State.

Noting that same brothers of same parents who were on the boat fishing at about 10 pm loss their lives

The mishap was caused by heavy rain fall and wind storm which occured on the fateful day.
