The Egbema Youth Political Forum has called on the youth and indigenes of various Communities precisely in Egbema Kingdom in Warri North L.G.A, Delta State to mobilize and go home to be part of the forthcoming Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) fresh electoral wards and units delineation exercise holding on Tuesday 9th to Wednesday 10th July, 2024.
The group made the call in a statement on Monday in Warri, signed by Barr Ebigbagha Stephen Baidi, Chairman; Comrade Karina E. Yoroki, Secretary, and Ebiterigha D. Ejemi, Spokesman
They said “ This call is necessary because the exercise is expected to go round to all Communities which required that the indigenes of the various Communities and villages are expected to be present during the exercise”
“ We again remind us, mostly the teeming youth of Egbema Kingdom to consider this exercise as one of the defining moments for our dear Kingdom, and also to prove it to the world that our Communities are densely populated than as appears on the INEC record”
“ The Supreme Court which is the apex court of the land on Friday, December 2, 2022 in an Appeal No.: S/413/2016: Hon. George Timinimi & 9 Ors v INEC, passed the judgement and ordered the INEC to carry out a fresh delineation excercise of all electoral wards and units in the Warri Federal constituency comprising Warri North, Warri South and Warri South West LGAs before the conduct of future elections in the State”
The statement also reads, “ It is also on record that Denbo-Denbofa Oweikpodor, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, Arc Sylvester Adowei, Emmanuel Igetei and Midwest Kukuru Esq, have instituted a suit in the Federal High Court, Asaba, praying the court to stop Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) from conducting the Delta State Local Government election in Warri South, Warri South-West and Warri North Local Government Areas to hold on 13th July, 2024 pending after the enforcement of the supreme court’s judgment”
“ The plaintiffs on behalf of themselves and “the Ijaw people of Warri North, Warri South and Warri South-West LGAs of Warri Federal Constituency of Delta State” in suit no: FHC/ASB/CS/87/2024, demanded a declaration that: “The 2nd defendant (INEC) in the state cannot conduct Local Government Council elections in Warri North, Warri South and Warri South-West Local Government Councils of Delta State, without the 1st Defendant (INEC) establishing fresh polling units in compliance with the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria”
“ They also prayed the court, to order: “A DECLARATION that the 1st Defendant (INEC) cannot release its register of voters of polling units in Warri North, Warri South and Warri South-West Local Government Areas of Delta State to the 2nd Defendant (DSIEC) to conduct Local Government Council elections in the aforementioned Local Government Councils, without first establishing fresh polling units in compliance with the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in Appeal No. S/413/2016; Hon. George U. Timinimi & 9 Ors v. INEC delivered on 2/12/2022”
The group further appealed to the youth and every indigenes of the Kingdom living outside their Communities to try as much as possible to consider this exercise crucial and go home to be part of the exercise as it is necessary for the growth of our dear Kingdom.
