Flood: Burutu Council Chairman, Takeme Visits Affected Communities

On Saturday, 19th October 2024, the Executive Chairman of Burutu Local Government Council, Hon. Chief (Dr) Julius Takeme (JP) and his entourage visited some communities affected by flood in Burutu Local Government Council Area.

He visited Obotebe, Gbekebor, Ayakoromo and Ofonibeinghan (Okrika) Communities to assess the severe damage caused by the flooding.

During the visit, he expressed deepest concern over the devastating impact of the flood on these aforementioned communities.

“As a responsible government, we will rise to the occasion and take swift action, just as we have always done in the past. I have come to visit some of the affected communities and stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters affected by the devastating floods. What I saw was truly heartbreaking. I urge the Federal Government through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other stakeholders to take swift action and provide aide to the flood victims”.

According to him, the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is committed to ensuring that all affected flood victims would be protected and taken care of, and relief materials would be distributed to all affected communities.

Speaking further, Takeme appealed to those living in flood prone areas to relocate to higher grounds as the Local Government Council was making frantic efforts with the State Government to set up Internally Displaced Person’s (IDP) camps for the flood victims.

He appealed to the Federal Government and Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to construct a befitting Foreshore Wall and sandfill the affected communities to prevent future reoccurrence.
