Egbo Enforces Sanitation Laws, Seals Erring Construction Site In Ughelli

Olorogun (Barr.) Jaro Movudu Egbo Ksc, Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, has expressed strong disappointment over the actions of some business operators who defied government directives on environmental sanitation.

During an inspection tour on Monday, June 30, 2025, the chairman observed that certain fuel stations and businesses along major roads continued operations despite having been officially sealed for non-compliance with environmental sanitation orders.

“It is unacceptable that some people think they are above the law. Environmental sanitation is a collective responsibility, and defaulters will face the full weight of the law,” Egbo stated during the inspection.

At Egere Street Afiesere Road, the chairman encountered a newly constructed building with a completely blocked drainage system.

The obstruction, caused by debris and construction waste, posed a serious risk of flooding and public health hazards.

In response, Egbo ordered the immediate sealing of the site and directed the site engineer to clear the blocked drain.

“I have instructed that the entire stretch of the affected drain along Afiesere Road be thoroughly desilted to remove all blockages and debris. We cannot allow this kind of negligence that endangers the safety and wellbeing of our people,” he said.

The Executive Chairman reiterated his administration’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws and maintaining a clean and healthy environment across Ughelli North Local Government Area.

He warned that any further acts of sabotage or non-compliance will attract strict sanctions.
