The Delta State Traffic Management Authority Destma has reinforced its operational standards and code of conduct during a pre-deployment preparatory talk aimed at promoting professionalism, discipline, and effective service delivery among its officers.
At the briefing, officers were reminded of key operational guidelines, including strict adherence to the official dress code and the need to maintain politeness and civility when engaging with road users and alleged traffic offenders.
The authority emphasized that all interactions must be conducted in a respectful and friendly manner at all times.
DESTMA leadership also stressed the importance of responsiveness, directing officers to always attend to official calls, noting that the identity or urgency of the caller may not be immediately known.
Officers were further cautioned against absenteeism and lateness, with a reminder that personnel are expected to report for duty daily unless officially granted permission.
On operational procedures, patrol teams were instructed to adopt proper modes of operation, including positioning at strategic locations before apprehending vehicles, safely blocking suspected vehicles, and clearly informing motorists of their specific offences.
Officers were urged to remain humble in the discharge of their duties, regardless of external influence or perceived backing.
The briefing underscored the importance of teamwork and leadership, with officers advised to obey their team leaders, while leaders were encouraged to listen to subordinates, acknowledging that valuable ideas may come from any level.
Meanwhile, The Director General DESTMA, Hon Dr. Benjamin Essien Okiemute, confirmed that 11 officers from the Agbor Zone have been sanctioned for various offences ranging from indiscipline to improper dressing, all of which contravene the agency’s code of conduct.
The affected officers have been detained and disciplined in accordance with the DESTMA punishment regulations.
The authority reaffirmed its commitment to upholding professionalism, discipline, and integrity across all zones to enhance traffic management and public confidence.
