The Director General of Delta State Traffic Management Authority ( DESTMA), Hon. Dr. Benjamin Essien Okiemute NN RTD, has maintained that the agency was committed to ensuring the safety of roads users and Tricycles operators in Delta State.
Okiemute gave the assurance when Association of Delta State Tricycle/Keke Riders paid him a courtesy visit, in Asaba, Delta State.
Okiemute commended the association for their visit and assured them that their complaints and requests will be discussed with the Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.
He emphasized that the state government and DESTMA prioritized the protection of lives and properties of all road users, and that Keke riders are not being targeted for punishment/banishment.
The Chairman of the association, Comrade Ogbe David, Vice Chairman George Toweh, Kelvin Akpowhomano, ThankGod Omote PRO, all applauded the DG for prioritizing the safety of Keke riders and appealed for mercy considering the limited job opportunities and dependence on Keke hustling for livelihood.
The association assured the DG that they will begin sensitization campaigns among Keke riders on road rules and regulations.
Exco members requested adjustments to planned sanctions on Keke riders applying express road, carrying of heavy duty equipments, overloading and removing Of any attachments such as Side curtain, lron either at the top or back of any keke in Delta State.
The visit aimed to discuss the agency’s recent awareness campaigns and enforcement of rules and regulations guiding Keke riders and motorist in Delta State.
