Some Urhobo indigenes resident in Bayelsa State, have expressed their displeasure against Governor Sherrif Oborevwori for snubbing them when he visited Bayelsa State.
It was gathered that the angry Urhobos were at Government House in Yenagoa during the meeting and endorsement of Governor Douye Diri as the chairman of the South – South Governor’s Forum.
They said after the South South Governors meeting, their own governor ( Oborevwori) refused to acknowledge their solidarity like other state groups who trooped in their numbers to display their love and affection for their own.
According to Kiemute Edodjariogba, who spoke on behalf of the Urhobo indigenes, explained that when they got the information that the South South Governors were to converge in Yenagoa, various groups mobilized their people, including the Urhobos, and that when the governors came to read the communique, various governors were eager to see their people who turned up to sheer them and after the programme, some governors allowed their people to see them despite their overzealous security aides.
He added that when the governor of Delta State, Oborevbori was moving towards his car, the Urhobo sons and daughters started hailing him, Ukodoh Ukodoh, Ukodoh, Iniovowe Ehtine ,but the governor refused to look at their direction as his security aides made every efforts to debar the Urhobo indigenes from seeing their own governor like other ethnic indigenous from Akwa lbom, Rivers and Cross River state whose governors blessed their Undigenes before their departure.
“ As the governor finally zoomed off, we were disappointed and left the government house dejected with forlorn”
“ This was not the first time Delta state governors who visited Bayelsa state had maltreated their people with disdain when they wanted to solidarize with their leaders”
They pleaded with Oborevwori to always familiarize with Urhobo indigenes whenever he visits Bayelsa, adding that due to the proximity they always come home to cast their votes during the governorship elections in Delta state.
